The film is based on a real incident of police violence in the 18th arrondissement of Paris in 1993: a policeman shot and killed a 17-year-old Zairean boy named Makomé M'Bowolé during patrol. In the film, a group of anti-government youths are seen on the streets of Paris. The dispute started when one of them was beaten and seriously injured by the police, and everyone was resentful. Vinz (Vincent Cassel) got a real gun and was determined to fight back. Their hatred and anger were everywhere, and this large-scale conflict with the police was on the verge of breaking out. In the melee, Vinz was shot and killed by the police, and his accomplices also trembled and aimed at the police's head, and gunshots rang out... Whether it was the police or the street thugs, everyone lost control. The anxiety and restlessness in this adolescence, like uncontrolled anger, no one was spared. Director Mathieu Kassovitz won the Best Director Award in the main competition unit of the 48th Cannes Film Festival (1995).
