The story idea comes from the film's male protagonist, comedian Nick Kroll, and tells the story of a young, narcissistic entrepreneur (played by Kroll) whose company suddenly collapsed on the eve of his great success. His life fell into chaos, and he had to leave Manhattan and move to the suburbs to live with his estranged sister, her husband - played by real-life couple Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale - and his 3-year-old nephew. In the process of taking care of his nephew, he began to discover the meaning of life and how to start over as an adult.
