The film is adapted from the 2011 highly successful stage play of the same name by French playwright Cyril Gely. The story mainly takes place on the night of August 24, 1944, at the Hotel Meurice on Rue de Rivoli in Paris. This hotel, built in the 18th century, has a rich history. It is said that Napoleon's mistress once stepped on the secret back staircase. At that time, the hotel was Choltitz's headquarters. After the Allied forces landed in Normandy in June 1944, they were marching towards Paris step by step. Hitler issued an order to burn Paris. Noeling had to persuade Choltitz, who was responsible for executing this order and had already placed explosives on the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame de Paris and the Seine River Bridge, to give up the burning and save the streets and alleys, places of interest, and innocent residents of Paris. This classic political drama is almost entirely about the rivalry between two characters, one is the senior diplomat Nöring, and the other is Choltitz, who wants to faithfully fulfill his military duties but does not want to bear the notoriety of destroying Paris. The performances of the two leading actors, Nils Alestrup (The Prophet, The Forgotten Rhythm of My Heart) and André Dussolier (Paris Chanson, A Very Long Engagement), have won praise from foreign film critics. The ups and downs and verbal battles show that sometimes, the turning point of history is in the hands of a few key figures. In history, Nöring and Choltitz did not have such a dramatic "One Night in Paris", but met several times before the Allied forces entered Paris. Nöring finally persuaded Choltitz to give up the plan to burn down Paris.
