In August 1937, the Battle of Songhu broke out. Zhao Jingzhou (a member of the Communist Party of China), the major battalion commander of the 158th Division of the Jiangcheng National Army, was on his way to Shanghai to deliver military rations when he unexpectedly encountered a Japanese special forces reconnaissance team that secretly landed from Hangzhou Bay. After escaping from danger in a fierce battle, Zhao Jingzhou promptly informed the Songhu Command of the National Army of the important military information that the Japanese army landed from Hangzhou Bay and attacked Shanghai from the north and south, but it did not attract the attention of the senior officials of the National Army. Instead, he was misunderstood by the anti-communist diehards in the National Army and was arrested and imprisoned for dereliction of duty. In order to complete the task assigned by the Party and unite all forces to fight the war to the end, Jingzhou endured humiliation and completely lost contact with the Party organization. Relying on his unswerving belief, he eradicated the Japanese reconnaissance team that secretly entered the Nationalist-controlled area, and followed the anti-Japanese troops to go all out in the Battle of Songhu.
