During the Japanese colonial period in Korea, Hasegawa Tatsuo (played by Odagiri Joe), the grandson of a Japanese general, competed with Kim Jun-sik (played by Jang Dong-gun Jang), a poor boy, in long-distance running until the Olympic selection. Although Jun-sik won the championship at risk, he was falsely accused of violating the rules. The indignant people clashed with the military, and Jun-sik was eventually exiled. He and his brothers were repeatedly humiliated by the Japanese army. In a field battle, Jun-sik accidentally captured Sly (played by Fan Bingbing), a sniper who specialized in shooting Japanese soldiers.
