The film is based on the infamous Bre-X Gold Mining Company scam in 1993. Bre-X Gold Mining Company was a Canadian gold mining company established in a basement. It was listed on the Alberta Stock Exchange in July 1989 as a junk stock of about 25 cents per share. Later, the company bought the mining rights of an Indonesian mine. By mixing gold powder into the rocks, they created the illusion that the ore of the mine had a very high gold content. The price of the company's stock was like a wild horse. By April 1996, their stock price had soared to 200 yuan. In October 1996, the fraud of Bre-X Gold Mining Company was exposed, but the assets of thousands of shareholders had already fallen into the pockets of the company's founder, geologists and others. The story of "Gold Mining" tells the story of modern prospector Kenny Wells, played by Matthew McConaughey, who is eager to explore a big mine. Guided by this dream, Wells teamed up with an equally unlucky geologist on a desperate expedition to find gold deep in an unknown rainforest in Indonesia.
