Marty (Colin Farrell) is a movie screenwriter who loves to drink. His friend Billy (Sam Rockwell) and Hans (Christopher Walken) make money by stealing dogs and returning them to their owners. Marty is currently writing a script called "Seven Psychopaths", but he has no inspiration, so Billy provides him with some material. There is a psychopath who is a killer who throws down a J playing card every time he kills someone.
