Stingo (Peter MacNicol), a young writer from the southern United States, came to Brooklyn to make a living and met Sophie (Meryl Streep) and Nathan (Kevin Kline) who lived upstairs. They enthusiastically expressed their hope to make friends with the young writer, and Stingo gladly accepted their invitation. After gradually getting to know each other, they established a close and friendly relationship with each other. In this process, Stingo learned that Sophie often cried sadly because of Nathan's suspicion and rage, but she loved Nathan very much, and what worried her most was that Nathan's life would be unimaginable without her. Sophie is Polish. She came to the United States after World War II, met Nathan here and depended on him. During the war, Sophie was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp, and her father, husband, and children all died in this war. How should Sophie's spirit and body choose for her own suffering and the tragic fate of her relatives, and the hellish genocide in this war...
